So yesterday’s news was dominated by the unveiling of the new 2016 Mazda MX5. While the looks of this new roadster truly brings a new image to the cute rear-wheeler, they had yet to release the specs of this new car; until now.
Although it is still lacking the official power or even weight figure of the car, they did released the “development targets” of the Japanese-market 2016 Miata, which could at least shed some light on how awesome the new roadster is going to be.
For starters, the previous gen NC was 4020mm long, 1720mm wide and 1245mm tall, and has a wheelbase of 2330mm. The new ND however has a length of 3915mm, 1730mm wide and a height of 1235mm. Wheelbase is 2315mm. This means that the new ND MX5 is about 10.5cm shorter in overall length from its previous gen, and is slightly wider by 1cm.
Like mentioned earlier, no power figures were presented, but it will be powered by a SKYACITV-G direct-injection petrol engine mated to a SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual transmission. It gets a double-wishbone suspension in the front and multilink suspension in the rear.
Stopping power is provided by a set of ventilated brakes upfront and solid discs in the rear, hiding underneath the 195/50R16 tires.
