With Infiniti showing great potential in producing a sports sedan through the GTR-powered Q50 Eau Rouge Concept, cars like the Porsche Panamera and Aston Martin’s Rapide will soon be facing a new challenger.

While this new high-performance luxury sedan is not putting its sights in being a Mercedes-Benz S-class competitor, it will retain some characteristics to still make it an Infiniti, but with an added punch. Currently they are planning to have newly-developed 3.0-liter V6 turbo hybrid powertrain pumping out 550-horsepower and a larger 3.7-liter V6 twin-turbo hybrid with 700-horsepower.

Although using the GT-R engine does have its advantages and is in no doubt to be very tempting, there are a number of limitations for them to proceed with such plans as the GT-R’s engine are hand built, therefore cannot be built in large numbers. Aside from having them in mass production, Infiniti and Nissan chiefs would also like for the easy-to-build engines to have lower emissions and better fuel economy than what the GT-R is making currently.

This new performance sedan is expected to bear the Q80 or Q90 nameplate, accompanied by Eau Rouge in the end.
