Infiniti has just added a new member to their ever-growing family of cars, and this time around, Infiniti launched the new Q50 premium sports sedan at the recently relocated Infiniti Center Kuala Lumpur.

The Infiniti Q50 In A Nutshell
The Infiniti Q50 is a premium compact executive sedan that supersedes the older Infiniti G series. The Q50 will compete against the likes of the Lexus IS, Audi A4, BMW 3 series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

Engine and Performance
Available in 2 main variants, the Infiniti Q50 2.0T GT is powered by a 2.0L inline-4 engine which is turbocharged and produces a maximum of 211 hp with 350 NM of twisting power. Max torque is available from 1,250 RPM onwards. The higher end Infiniti Q50S 3.5 Hybrid features a 3.5L V6 engine which is paired to a hybrid system to produce a maximum of 364 hp and 546 NM of torque. Both engines feature Continuously Variable Valve Timing Control System (CVTCS) which optimizes the opening of intake and exhaust valves. Also standard across the range is the 7 speed electronically controlled automatic gearbox. The gearbox offers manual shift mode with Downshift Rev Matching. The Q50 2.0T can propel from zerotohundred in 7.2 seconds before hitting a top speed of 245 km/h, while the bigger brother Q50S 3.5 Hybrid hits the century sprint in 5.1 seconds and maxes out at 250 km/h.

Technology Behind the Brawn
The first feature of Infiniti’s high-tech priorities is their steer-by-wire system, called Direct Adaptive Steering (DAS). The Direct Adaptive Steering allows for unrivaled handling customization while also filters out unwanted vibrations. The DAS system is only available on the Infiniti Q50 2.0T GT Premium and the Q50S 3.5 Hybrid. The Direct Adaptive Steering works in line with Infiniti’s Active Lane Control. Besides that, the Q50 also features an Intelligent Key (I-Key) which can store different driver profiles.

Exterior
The Infiniti Q50 features Infiniti’s double arch front grille, which gives the car a sporty front looks. All models will offer Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and LED rear tail lights. The Q50 2.0T GT features 17″ alloy wheels, while the Q50 2.0T GT Premium has 18″ alloy wheels. The top spec Q50S Hybrid has the biggest wheel of the lot, measuring at 19″. All Q50 models will come with run-flat tires as standard.

Interior
Being a premium compact executive sedan, the Infiniti Q50’s interior features full leather wrapping, with Kacchu aluminum trim. The stock audio system which compromises of 6 speakers, a FM/AM radio, CD/DVD with MP3 playback and a speed sensitive volume control is standard on the Q50 2.0T GT and the Q50S Hybrid. The Q50 2.0T GT Premium features Infiniti Studio on Wheels, which is powered by a 14 speaker BOSE sound system. Bluetooth and USB connectivity is standard across the range.

Safety
Safety is not compromised in the Q50, as it comes with driver and front passenger airbags, seat mounted side impact airbags for the driver and passenger, roof mounted curtain airbags for outboard occupant safety. ISOFIX mount is available for parents to mount their child seats at the back. Standard safety features like ABS, EBD, BA, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) with Traction Control System (TCS) is also standard on the Q50 range.

Buyers of the Infiniti Q50 can choose from Moonlight White, Liquid Platinum, Hagane Blue, Graphite Shadow, Chestnut Bronze, Venetian Ruby and Malbec Black as their exterior colour. All colours will come with Infiniti’s Scratch Shield self-healing paint. The Infiniti Q50 is fully imported from the land of the Rising Sun. The Q50 2.0T GT retails at RM248,800. Adding another RM30,000 gets you the Q50 2.0T GT Premium (RM278,800) while the top of the line Q50S retails at RM398,800. All prices are exclusive of insurance.
