Ferrari to boost sales from 7,000 to 10,000 units annually under Marchionne?

Although we are seeing more and more Ferraris prowling the streets of Malaysia these days, former CEO Luca di Montezemolo had actually limited the annual sales to 7,000 units to preserve its exclusivity. Such move was also one of the factors why he and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne are not really the best pals. So when di Montezemolo stepped down from the post, it seems like Ferrari is set to reverse such controversial decision.

According to Bloomberg, Marchionne hinted that Ferrari has the potential to sell about 10,000 cars annually. He also said that Ferrari should further be integrated with parent company FCA, in the similar manner where Porsche is connected to the Volkswagen Group.

But this does not mean that Ferrari has been losing money all these while. Despite the sales were down 3.6 percent to 3,631 cars in the first six months of the year, their revenues were up 14.5 percent to a new record of 1.35 billion Euros (RM 5.58 billion).

Marchionne believes that the demand for Ferrari cars should be met, and this disagreement is said to be one of the factors why di Montezemolo left after 23 years of serving the Prancing Horse, not to forget the brand’s poor performance in Formula One.

But di Montezemolo’s departure from his post does not mean he is no longer connected to the brand. He will still be making some public appearances with Ferrari like in the 2014 Paris Motor Show where he is expected to be revealing a new version of the 458, which might possibly be the drop top version of the 458 Speciale.
