Nissan ZEOD RC’s 1.5L Turbo Engine has 400HP, and it fits in your Hands!

They say good things come in small packages, and they were not entirely wrong. Nissan is set to deploy their electric ZEOD RC for this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans, and in this unique-looking race car is a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that you could hold in your hands, literally.

This new three-cylinder turbo unit weighs only a mere 40kg, and that means that a grown man has no problems in lifting it up with their own hands. But do not let the diminutive size deceive you as this engine has the capability of churning out an impressive 400-horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque with just a displacement of 1.5 liters

This new DIG-T R engine measures 500mm tall x 400mm long x 200mm wide. With this measurement,    Nissan claims that “it could easily fit inside the luggage guides seen at major airports around the world”. They also said that “at a ratio of 10 horsepower per kilogram, the new engine actually has a better power-to-weight ratio than the new engines to be used in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship this year”.

The ZEOD RC is equipped with two engines, one is this impressive DIG-T R petrol engine and the other is an electric motor, both running through the same five-speed gearbox. Soon to occupy “Garage 56”, Nissan said that this car will be the first entry at Le Mans to finish a complete lap of the Circuit de la Sarthe under electric power alone in June.
