Ever since the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class made its debut into the market, we have been waiting for AMG to release its own version of the infamous tire-munching V8 monster. And boy oh boy, are we glad that the waiting has finally come to an end as Mercedes-AMG lifted the covers off on the spanking new second-generation C63 AMG.

We’ll get straight to the point. Nowadays, we are seeing a lot of German performance cars downsizing their engines due to the stricter emission regulations, and the new C63 AMG is one of them. Despite not being powered by the iconic naturally-aspirated 6.2-liter V8 engine, the new 4.0-liter V8 engine still provides a hefty punch to this German sedan.

Equipped with two turbochargers, the M177 engine pushes out 503-horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, making it more powerful than the previous-generation C63 AMG. It is not a surprise that the C63 AMG gets that much power, especially when it has the same 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine found in the new AMG GT. Even with such output, the C63 AMG claims gas mileage of 28mpg or even better.

Mated to a seven-speed AMG Speedshift MCT automatic transmission, power is sent to the rear wheels and gives the C63 AMG a zerotohundred timing of 4.2 seconds, and a faster 4.1 seconds for the C63 S. Oh yes, they are also offering an S version of the C63 AMG, although for the time being very scarce information are available on the differences between the S and the non-S models.

AMG styling cues are aplenty on this car, where the front bumper houses large air ducts and a redesigned grille with a small AMG insignia. The front fenders are slightly widened and get indents with the “V8 Biturbo” badges sitting behind the front wheel arches. Expect more AMG goodies to bathe the cabin like AMG seats, a flat bottom AMG multi-function steering wheel, unique instrument graphics and AMG specific trims.

The Coupe and Cabriolet versions will arrive somewhere late next year, so for the time being only the sedan and wagon variants are up for grabs.
