It was shrouded in the invisible cloak of mystery but as Pebble Beach looms over, Lamborghini finally lifted off the covers from their new 2015 Lamborghini Huracan LP620-2 Super Trofeo race car. Destined for the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo one-make race series that is currently being held in North America, Europe and Asia, it is the designation of this racer that had truly caught our attention.

The previous Super Trofeo was based on the Gallardo and it has 570-horsepower sent to all four wheels. However, the Huracan Super Trofeo does not have the luxury of all-wheel drive and not to forget that its 5.2-liter V10 engine has also been uprated to produce more power to 611-horsepower compared to the 601-horsepower in the road car.

Lamborghini said that the decision to go for a rear-wheel drive configuration for the upcoming season is to help the preparation for the Super Trofeo drivers in familiarizing with GT cars. And by ditching the all-wheel drive system, they were also able to significantly reduce the weight of the cars, which now tips the scales at only 1270kg.

The new Huracan Super Trofeo was developed by Lamborghini’s new motorsport division, Squadra Corse, together with Dallara. “The Huracan Super Trofeo is an all-new car from scratch with a clear racing concept. We believe the car will be as fun for fans to watch as it will be rewarding for our racers to drive,” said Lamborghini R&D boss Maurizio Reggiani.
