What we have here, is BMW’s upcoming M2. Smaller brother to the M3 and M4, but bigger brother than the already stonking M235i. It’s pretty much like a throwback to the older E30 M3. Small car, with a powerful engine was the recipe that made the E30 M3 that great.
So, the guys at Carscoops scooped this particular M2 prototype doing some rounds, on what we suspect is the famed Green Hell. Unlike previous spyshots of the supposed M2, this one here sports a slightly different non-M door wing mirrors, and does not seem to sport a carbon-fibre roof.
What remained are those swollen wheel arches and bigger wheels (Compared to the regular 2-series, that is). The swollen wheel arches would be a clear indication that the front and rear track has been properly widened. Unlike earlier spyshots, the air outlets on the front fender may have been deleted. The wheels are measured at 19″, with appropriately sized brake calipers on each corner.
Engine wise, expect a bump of power from the M235i, which makes about 320 hp, but will definitely be below the M2’s bigger siblings, the M3 and M4, which has 425 hp. It would be safe to assume that the M2 would be producing about 380 hp, which sits comfortably between the M235i and the M3/M4.
