Audi to Downsize the Next RS4’s Engine to a Turbocharged V6?

rs4_4

It seems like downsizing is the trend of today. BMW had ditched the V10 and opted for the turbocharged V8 for their M5, and the next Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG is expected to house a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine instead of the iconic 6.2. Audi is also included in this downsizing move as reports are coming in suggesting that the next generation of the RS4 will be powered by a downsized, force-fed engine.

Eyeing for a V6 for their next RS4, the next engine powering this high-performance sedan is most likely to be based on the supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine found in the S4, except that the supercharger will be replaced by a twin-turbocharging system.

Estimations put the power figure to be in the range of 425-horsepower; well within the BMW M3/M4’s power range, but not for the new C63 AMG which might host up to 500-horsepower.

However, if you are a big fan of German performance models with naturally aspirated V8s, then this might be a bit of a bad news as the next RS5 will most likely be featuring the same engine.
