Team RT-ROWE Pentagon and R Engineering takes the win at the MSS Round 4 2014

Possibly being one of the most spectacular races in the 2014 season, the Malaysian Super Series Round 4 concludes with the dynamic duo of Chris Tan and Alan Wong from RT-ROWE Pentagon Racing Team grabbing the top spot on the podium. Although they did start the race from pole position, it was not a stroll in the park as they faced constant pressure from the pursuing opponents.

As the lights turned green, veterans Damien Dielenberg and Tommy Lee gave great chase in the Honda Integra DC5. Starting the race from second on the grid, the duo unfortunately was forced to sit this round out as they retired due to some technical problems.

The deployment of the safety car also caused a major reshuffle in the positions. Team Wing Hin Motorsport’s #86 Toyota 86 started the race in 7th but after pitting in during the first lap of the safety car period, Kenny Lee managed to rejoin the race in front of the pack. Despite leading the race for quite some time, the power difference between the 86 and the Civic FD2R allowed Chris Tan to regain the lead and take the chequered flag.

Coming in third for the Touring Production category was Desmond Yee from N1 Racing Team in the Honda Integra DC5 who crossed the finish line with a time of 1:01:54.909.

Down in the MTC category, there was no shortage of drama as the one in the TP as the first three rows were filled with entries from Team Sakura-Tedco Racing, R Engineering and Proton R3. Starting the race from pole position with a qualifying timing of 2:38.348 is Team Sakura-Tedco Racing’s Mark Darwin who is driving alone for this round, and locking into him was R Engineering’s Lai Wee Sing/Alvaro Mourato who qualified 2nd, and the Proton R3 duo of Syafiq Ali and James Veerapen/Tengku Ezan who qualified 3rd and 5th respectively. CY Ong and Phng Wee Liang also did a great job by qualifying 4th on the grid.

Chaos ensued in the first three laps as Mark and Lai kept on swapping places throughout the race, but it was after the third lap that Mark was able to build a gap between him and the pursuers by using the traffic up ahead. Although it seemed like a clear road to victory, R Engineering’s Alvaro Mourato managed to catch Mark in the second half of the race to take the Round 4’s victory.

Despite starting the race in 5th, Tengku Ezan/James Veerapen managed to take the still-new Suprima S race car into a comfortable position and grab a much-needed podium finish for Proton R3. Syafiq Ali unfortunately had to miss out on a shot for the podium spot as his Preve race car developed some problems and threw him out of pace.
