Mercedes-Benz Malaysia has just pulled the wraps off the much anticipated model in Malaysia, the new W205 C-Class. This comes after less than a year after a global debut at the Detroit Motor Show. Mercedes Benz Malaysia has brought in 2 variants of the new W205 C-Class, which are the C200 Avantgarde and the C250 Exclusive in CBU form.

The Mercedes Benz W205 C-Class In A Nutshell
The new W205 C-Class is set to continue Mercedes Benz Malaysia’s success in the premium mid-size sedan category here. This time, the W205 is more dynamic, lighter and looks sharper than before.
Engine and Performance
Here in Malaysia, the new W205 is brought in as a CBU model, all the way from South Africa. We will be getting 2 models for now, which consists of the C200 Avantgarde and the C250 Exclusive. Powering both models are the 2.0 L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with direct petrol injection.
For the C200, the engine produces 184 hp at 5,500 rpm, while the same engine in the C250 makes 211 hp @ 5,500 rpm. As for torque, the C200 has 300 NM of it, while the C250 has 50 NM more, at 350 NM. Both models sport the same 7G-TRONIC PLUS gearbox with 7 gears for seamless gear shifting. The Mercedes Benz C200 can sprint from zerotohundred in 7.3 seconds, while the bigger brother C250 does the same zerotohundred sprint in just 6.6 seconds.
Technology Behind the Brawn
Undeniably, the new W205 C-Class has a lot of tech going on. Amongst them are the LED headlamps and tail lights. The new C-Class is completely free of conventional light bulbs, and uses energy-saving LEDs instead. Besides the LED lights, the C250 Exclusive also features an active radiator shutter, called AIRPANEL. This active radiator shutter will open and shut the radiator grille when cooling is necessary, to improve aerodynamics.
The C200 Avantgarde has a sports grille with dual louvres for that added sportiness. Besides the grille choices and LED lights, what truly sets the new W205 C-Class from its competition has to be the GPS guided air conditioning system.
The air conditioning system hooks up to the GPS’s map data to close air re-circulation flap automatically when the car enters a tunnel, and reopens when the car exits the tunnel. The more premium C250 Exclusive will also get the AIR-BALANCE package, which features active air fragrance, air ionization and enhanced air filtration.
Exterior
As mentioned earlier, the new W205 C-Class sports sharper lines from its predecessor. At a glance, you could mistake the W205 C-Class as the bigger brother S-Class, as the lines are quite similar. The new design of the W205 C-Class has also helped it to achieve a Cd value of 0.24, among the lowest in its class. Wind noise has also been further lowered.
Both C200 Avantgarde and C250 Exclusive will have 17″ alloy wheels as standard, but the Avantgarde model gets a sportier design over the Exclusive model.
Interior
The interior of the W205 C-Class has also seen a drastic improvement over its predecessor. Taking centre stage of the dashboard is the Mercedes Benz COMAND system that is hooked up to a unique touchpad control system.

The touchpad system by Audio 20 provides haptic feedback and can recognize handwriting like letter, numbers and special characters. Much like using a smartphone, the touchpad is highly intuitive and simple to use.
The interior also sports the usage of LED ambient lighting. Owners can select the ambient colours through the head unit and select three different ambient colours, namely solar, polar and neutral, with 5 different brightness levels.
Safety
When it comes to safety, the W205 C-Class has no compromise. It has seven airbags in total, which includes driver and front passenger airbags, combined thorax sidebags for the driver and front passenger, a new windowbag and a kneebag of the driver.
ISOFIX mount comes standard, and as for the front passenger seat, it now features a weight mat which disables the airbag when the child seat is fitted. The airbag is reactivated once the childseat is removed. Besides that, the C-Class also has ABS, EBD, BA and stability control.
The W205 C-Class is now available for bookings, and Mercedes Benz Malaysia is offering an affordable loan package at RM110 per day for the C200 Avantgarde. The C200 Avantgarde is priced at RM285,888 while the more premium C250 Exclusive is priced at RM314,888. Both prices are OTR exclusive of insurace.
