The F30 3 Series has been with us now for more than 2 years; and despite its rather controversial looks, we have seen rather favourable sales from BMW as more F30s hit the roads and exposing itself in the light. Yes, in that time it has gotten a little too common and dare we say a bit blend?
Don’t worry though – BMW has been listening and just unveiled a much more desirable version of the 3 Series called the 4 Series Gran Coupe. Its a little confusing but if you follow the marketing strategy of BMW lately; you’d definitely have heard of the 6 Series Gran Coupe. Just like the 6GC; the 4 Series GC is a four door version of the F32 4 Series Coupe and we think it looks rather excellent!
Carrying over the Coupe-like low roofline from the 4 Series matched with the looks and practicality of the 3 Series; some would say its a match made in heaven. BMW saw the response and success of the 6 Series GC and has followed through to bring a much more affordable version in the Gran Coupe series.
A sleek; coupe-like compact executive sedan is a market that has solely been held by Audi’s A5 Sportsback and it is about time for another automaker to go up against them at its own game. The 4 Series GC will be a little more expensive than an F30 3 Series; but we reckon many would consider spending the extra for the looks and exclusivity.
Power will be derived from a 2.0-litre four pot turbo and a 3.0-litre in-line 6 turbocharged engine; similar to those offered on the 3 Series and 4 Series. In good time; we will very likely see a M4 Gran Coupe but we might have to wait a little longer..
The 4 Series GC will officially launch next month at the Geneva Motor Show with more details to follow through then. Rumours claim that it will only go on sale beginning Summer this year so we can probably expect the 4 Series GC to hit our shores in Q4 earliest.
