BMW, a name famous for their cars, also has a line of premium bikes. From today till Sunday, BMW will be showcasing the importance of Active Safety in cars and bikes.
BMW Motorrad was the first manufacturer of motorcycles to incorporate ABS to all of their models in 2013. Not only that, BMW Motorrad was the first manufacture to mass produce motorcycles with ABS. Besides ABS, BMW Motorrad has also created traction slip control systems like Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) which makes extreme braking manoeuvres less dangerous.
Sashi Ambi, Head of Corporate Communications, BMW Group Malaysia said, “We at BMW believe that safety and responsibility on the road is very much essential to the experience of Sheer Driving Pleasure and we have worked continuously to develop innovative solutions and new ideas to further enhance road safety which has been firmly anchored within our corporate strategy.”
Malaysia has been ranked the 17th most dangerous country in the world with 30 fatalities per 100,000 individuals. Malaysia is second to Thailand when it comes to road fatalities in the South East Asian region. Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) has also mentioned that on average, 18 people are killed on Malaysian roads on a daily basis, and is expected to increase till 29 people by 2020. Ambi also said, “We at BMW have always put great significance on road safety in terms of technology and training. To this day, every single safety system in our cars is examined and is developed by BMW engineers – most of which often take on pioneering roles. Nevertheless, there is still great potential for further development in active safety systems as supreme safety of the highest standard should be a natural asset for any carmaker,”
Glenn Allerton, rider from BMW Motorrad Italia demonstrated how the BMW DTC and ABS system works while in the wet. Glenn used a BMW HP4, which has DTS and ABS as standard.
