Although the VW Beetle is pretty much a harmless car on the streets, put it under the knife and you get one extreme racer. The Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross team had recently unveiled the final version of their Beetle GRC racer, and it sure looks extreme from head to toe.

An insane interpretation of the infamous VW model, this Beetle GRC will be making its debut in the Red Bull Global Rallycross championship and will be driven by Tanner Foust and Scott Speed. The car is powered by a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder TSI engine that pushes out 544-horsepower. This Beetle will replace the VW Polo that is currently used by Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross.

“The Polo has already proved super competitive and we are really looking forward to racing a car that has been engineered specifically by Volkswagen Motorsport for GRC competition,” said Scott Speed.

Using the third-generation Beetle as the base, the Beetle GRC features a sequential six-speed transmission with a fixed-ratio all-wheel drive system that features multiplate limited-slip differentials at both the front and rear. The car is fitted with an all-around strut-type suspension with ZF dampers.

With the car weighing just 1,210kg, the 544-horsepower engine could easily propel this Bug from zerotohundred in a blistering 2.1 seconds.
