Although there were rumours that Mitsubishi are going to work on a Lancer Evolution XI, it is most possibly that the X is going to be the last of its kind. But after being introduced back in 2008, we might be seeing the last of the Evos rolling out from the factory lines as reports are coming out from Japan that the X will be discontinued from the production lines.
In favour for environmentally friendly cars rather than performance models, Nikkan Jidosha Shimbun is reporting that Mitsubishi is looking forward to create an image of them being the leader in electric cars and will allocate their resources accordingly. With the performance image that the Evo brought like the days when it competed in the World Rally Championship, that is the total contrast of what Mitsubishi is looking to achieve.
There were also hushes of Mitsubishi delaying the works to the new Evo, which is until they have the proper technology in creating a performance hybrid system. With both the next-gen Nissan GT-R and the upcoming Supra rumoured to bear a hybrid powertrain, Mitsubishi is assessing the situation of how effective such technology would be.
