The BMW M4 convertible was supposed to make its debut at the New York Auto Show on April 16. Then again, the net debut will always be earlier than the real world’s as lots of photos of this new M4 have made its circulation online.

Although this M4 has two less cylinders than the outgoing M3 convertible, it has the great combination of more power and lesser weight. According to BMW Global, the M4 convertible weighs 60kg less than its predecessor at 1,750kg. Unsurprisingly though, it is heavier than the M4 Coupe that tips the scales as 1,497kg.

Sharing the same power plant as the M3 Sedan and the M4 Coupe, the M4 convertible is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six that produces 425-horsepower from 5,500rpm to 7,300rpm and has a peak torque of 550Nm between 1,850rpm to 5,500rpm.

When equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox, the M4 convertible could do a zerotohundred in 4.6 seconds, and a faster 4.4 seconds with the seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmission. Top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h.

Like the other 4-series convertibles, it has a three-section folding metal roof that is operated at a touch of a button and goes down in under 20 seconds. One could also operate the roof while on the move to speeds up to 18km/h.
