Porsche Reveals their new LMP1 Racer – the 919 Hybrid

Porsche was a dominant force in Le Mans but after their departure from the iconic endurance race, names like Audi and Peugeot started to rise and taking the podium spots. However, 2014 will not be an easy year for them as the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer is back into the sport with their newly-developed Porsche 919 Hybrid LMP1 racer.

With a great record of 16 wins at Circuit de La Sarthe, Porsche is ready to take on Audi’s R18 e-Tron and Toyota’s new TS040 with their own hybrid powertrain. But unlike the Toyota that uses a V8 engine and a V6 for Audi, Porsche is going with an interesting 2.0-liter V4 turbocharged engine to take them throughout their endurance challenges.

Working together with an electric motor placed on the front axle, they had yet to release any output figures for the time being. But for a car that weighs only 870kg, we foresee that this 919 Hybrid will produce some interesting results.

With the car being revealed at the recent Geneva Motor Show, the 919 Hybrid will not miss this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans scheduled for 14-15 June. Do you think they could pose a credible threat to both Audi and Toyota? We will soon find out!
