Jaguar brings virtual into reality with their Virtual Windscreen Concept!

If you could recall a while back, Land Rover showcased their impressive ‘Transparent Hood’ technology on board their Discovery Vision Concept, and it is nothing short of being awesome. While that might be really useful for such vehicles to go through rough terrains, Jaguar had come up with its own take on a virtual interface that brings the likes of Gran Turismo into real life.

It is called the Virtual Windscreen Concept and like the name suggests, the windscreen is projected with a slew of driver assistance designed specifically to keep the driver’s eyes on the road. By using a heads-up display (HUD) that overlays driving line like many virtual racers available, this might just be the next big thing in the automotive industry.

Of course, the Virtual Windscreen Concept has the necessary information like speed, rpm readings and gear position displayed, but those are not the ones we are interested in. What got us glued to this concept is that it also feeds the driver with the driving line and information of the other cars up front. The concept could even display a ‘ghost car’ visualization that allows drivers to race against virtual drivers on the tarmac.

“The virtual windscreen is a concept at the moment, as the technology doesn’t exist today to utilize the entire windscreen as a HUD. We are working with our suppliers to develop the technology, and it has potential to reach production in around 10 years,” said a Jaguar Land Rover spokesperson.
