Last year we saw something that Das Stig is not usually seen driving; a lawnmower. Even so, this is no typical grass-cutting machine as it was built by the collaborative work of Honda UK and their British Touring Car Championship partner, Team Dynamics. This Mean Mower may deceive the eyes of the beholder as a standard Honda HF Lawn Tractor, but that is where it catches a lot off guard as it has the ability to travel to speeds up to 209km/h.
Then again, this is just a claim made by Honda themselves and had not made official, until now. With representatives from Guinness to supervise the high speed run, the Mean Mower now has secured a spot in the Guinness Book of Records as it managed to achieve an average speed of 187.6km/h or 116.57mph.
Of course, this is not the first time someone went to set a speed record on a lawn mower. But compared to the Mean Mower’s speed, the previous 45km/h record stood no chance at all. They measured the speed over a 100-meter speed trap and the figure was obtained by getting the average of two runs.
As a recap, the Mean Mower is powered by a 1,000cc V-twin engine that pushes out 109-horsepower. With wheels coming from a tarmac-oriented ATV, it is also fitted with a custom suspension setup.
