Could this 275 GTB/C Speciale be the most expensive Ferrari ever?

It was designed and built to challenge the threat posed by the Ford GT40 and the Shelby Cobra Daytona at Le Mans back in 1965. Being the first Ferrari to feature independent rear suspension, the 275 GTB/C Speciale also represented the evolution of the popular 250 series, which of course included the 250 GTO.

The Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale is set to make an appearance at the RM auction sales in Monterey, and is expected to fetch a price tag that is simply out of this world; £ 20 million (RM 108,233,780). Of course when we say expected, it is yet to be the most expensive Ferrari ever sold as for the time being, the title falls to a Ferrari 275 GTB/4 NART Spider which managed to fetch a jaw-dropping £ 16 million (RM 86,587,024) in an auction.

This particular model is one of only three 275 GTB/C Speciale made by Ferrari in late 1964 and early 1965 to homologate their new 275 GTB race car. With an aluminium bodywork and a lighter chassis, the tuned V12 engine is mounted lower in the car to improve the center of gravity, making it lighter and faster than the road-going 275 GTB.

This particular 275 GTB/C Speciale never saw competition in its life span, but one of the other two managed to snatch a third place overall in Le Mans back in 1965.
