Aston Martin looking for a new name for the next DB9?

The Aston Martin DB9 has been around with us since 2004 and is simply one of the best looking grand tourers available. But it seems like the British marquee is already eyeing to replace the DB9 and while chronologically speaking it will be called as the DB10, that might not entirely be the case.

Like how they skipped the DB8 moniker from the DB7 and jumped straight to the DB9, the upcoming model does not necessarily follow the numerally order. “We skipped a number last time to try to emphasize what a big step the new car was. As the next one will be at least as a big step forward, there’s no reason why we couldn’t do so again,” said the Aston Martin design director Marek Reichman.

But the name is not the only piece we are interested in as instead of having the iconic Ford Duratec 6.0-liter V12 engine under the hood, the next DB9 will feature a new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter engine that is designed and built by Mercedes-AMG. Modifications would probably extend to bespoke engine management and exhausts systems, with the possibility of revised turbo boost pressures. The engine will be mated to a Mercedes’ new nine-speed automatic transmission.

“There’ll be a little more revolution in it. It will be unmistakably an Aston and a DB at that, but it will look fresh and modern,” added Reichman.
