ZEROTOLOSE Go-Kart Enduro Challenge 2014 Concludes – Here’s a quick look at the happenings and results! – Zerotohundred

While the big guns at Circuit de La Sarthe were battling it out at the infamous 24 Hours of Le Mans, there was also another endurance race taking place, and this one is in our own backyard. Although this race does not involve the high-powered race cars with a complicated aero setup, the back-to-basics ZEROTOLOSE Go-Kart Enduro challenge managed to gather enough drivers to fill all 22 slots available for the Sunday race. And to those waking up early on a lazy weekend morning and turning this enduro race into a success, we thank you greatly for your kind support!

And those willing enough to sacrifice their weekends for a rush of adrenaline are in no doubt petrolheads themselves as not long after the registration booth was open, the parking lot was filled with rides that you will usually see entering TIMETOATTACK.

The Renault guys came down in a convoy, with a row of Meganes occupying a row in the parking lot. One particular model that caught our attention was the limited edition Megane RS Red Bull Racing RB8 where only 815 units are produced and only 15 of them are brought in via TC Euro Cars.

Renault also took this opportunity to showcase their new Clio RS, and we got to say that it looks really good in this shade of red.

And to fight the fiery attention brought by the red Clio RS, Wing Hin also brought their recently launched German hot hatch, the new VW Golf R Mk.7 for display.

The Eastern R clan also drove down to Sepang in great numbers, filling the parking lot with a lot of Civic Type-Rs.

After the registration, the participants were given a briefing to properly understand the rules of this karting enduro challenge. Basically, the race will go on for two hours and there will be three mandatory pit stops along the way. The pit stop windows will be open for 10 minutes and the strategies will be up to the team on when they want to change drivers or refuel.

After the briefing and to keep things fair, the team leaders were called upon a ballot to randomly pick their kart, which was then followed by a practice session. The 80cc karts were not exactly the fastest karts available, but it sure kept things fun and competitive as everyone has practically the same machine.

Once the drivers have had their familiarization around the go-kart track, the qualifying session followed and all of them wore their game faces as this is where even the slightest second matters.

Having posted their best times, the karts were lined up one side of the track as a tribute of the classic Le Mans, the ZEROTOLOSE Enduro challenge will kick off with a Le Mans-styled start.

While you might not see such format being implemented today in motorsports, it sure did keep things in the fun side where standing on the other side of the track were the first drivers and instead of the typical standing start, they will have to run into their karts to start the race.

Like mentioned before, the 80cc karts might not pack that much of a punch, but that was no excuse for the drivers to go slow as it was a neck-and-neck action from the start to the finish.

The various backgrounds of the drivers also provided a range of driving styles where while some play it smooth, there were also some bumper-to-bumper actions along the way.

After two hours of intense racing, the race was finally brought to an end with kart #20 driven by Famili Gangster taking the win with 102 laps in the bag. Second place was team Sakura Tedco Racing’s to take with their 101 laps, followed by N1 Racing with also 101 laps. Winners take home a ZEROTOLOSE trophy and an X1R goodie bag.
