The R8 e-tron was Audi’s take in producing something that is green yet still fun to drive. Lapping the legendary Nurburgring in 8:09, it is not a slacker either. Even so, the higher ups in Audi deemed that since the R8 e-tron lacked the range, it will not be reaching the production lines. That was last year’s news as after the R&D department cracked their heads in improving the car, the e-tron is back.
Now fitted with an improved battery technology, member of the board of management for technical development Ulrich Hackenburg confirmed that the R8 e-tron will final be built. The battery powering the e-tron is now capable of taking it to a range up to 450km, which is more than double the range of the original e-tron.
There is a catch though. Audi will only be manufacturing this electrifying R8 “upon customer request”, which simply means that it will be produced in a very limited number. Not to forget, it will most probably be costing a bomb as well. However, Audi does have plans to use the updated R8 e-tron to develop future technology that will be used in cars aimed for the masses.
