The BMW X5M and X6M. Not exactly the most popular of M cars, since it defies what M was all about. It was said that M cars should not be turbocharged, and should strictly be rear wheel drive. Then in 2009, the BMW X6M made a global debut, followed by the BMW X5M in 2010. Despite how humongous the X5M and X6M is, it still managed to sell quite well.
This time around, both M models will carry forward the same 4.4L V8, albeit with some improvements. The biggest change is the gearbox. Replacing the old six speed automatic is BMW M’s new eight speed Steptronic automatic. Power is now rated at 567 ponies, with 680 Nm of pulling power. With numbers like these, the X5M and X6M are BMW’s most powerful all-wheel-drive SUVs. Both the X5M and X6M can achieve a zerotohundred time of just 4.2 seconds, putting it ahead of many sports cars. Even the mk7 Golf R achieves a zerotohundred time of 4.9 seconds. Both the X5M and X6M are electronically capped to 250 km/h.
The X5M and X6M are also very clever, as they both sport BMW’s xDrive all-wheel-drive system and Dynamic Performance Control to maintain optimum agility and traction. Besides that, both models also have Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) for controlled drifts. The driver would need to to deactivate DSC to fully enjoy the car, and DSC will only kick in when it detects too much lateral acceleration.
On the exterior, both models sport large air intakes up front, with the rear end of both cars adorned by quad tailpipes. As with any other M powered BMWs, the X5M and X6M’s exterior has numerous M badges and emblems. Both the X5M and X6M will ride on 21-inch forged wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Super Sport UHP tires (front: 285/35R21 , rear: 325/30R21).
