Volkswagen Grabs the 2013 WRC Manufacturers’ Championship Title!

With Volkswagen grabbing a 1-2 win at the recent Rally Spain, Volkswagen Motorsport has won the 2013 World Rally Championship (WRC) title for manufacturers in its debut year. This adds more joy to the team as Sebastien Ogier managed to clinch the Drivers’ Championship title just three weeks ago.

Following the encouraging success in Spain, Volkswagen managed to secure the Manufacturers’ Championship with 382 points, 108 more than Citroen Total Abu Dhabi. The next and final round will be the Wales Rally on November 14-17, with Volkswagen Motorsport’s main cars being piloted by the pair of Sebastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia and Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila.

“Winning all three World Championship titles in one season is simply unbelievable. Given that this is the first season we have competed in the World Rally Championship with the Polo R WRC, it is an even greater achievement. Winning the Drivers’ and Co-Drivers’ World Championship was an absolute highlight for the whole team”, said Jost Capito, director of Volkswagen Motorsport.

“It was a dream come true for Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia in particular at their home event three weeks ago. But the Manufacturers’ World Championship is even more important for a car maker because it proves that it’s not just the driver who’s exceptional – the product is too”, he added. Volkswagen managed to win nine out of twelve races for the 2013 season.
