Two-Time F1 World Champion Mika Hakkinen Joins the GT Asia Series!

The fast-paced action of the GT Asia racing series has always been keeping the spectators at the edge of their seats, with capable drivers piloting their mean machines at impressive speeds. But it looks like competition will only be stiffer after this as for the next round of the GT Asia series, two-time Formula 1 World Champion Mika Hakkinen will be taking part the race series.

Joining Erebus Motorsports, Hakkinen will be making his first appearance when the GT Asia series hits Zhuhai International Circuit in China this October 11 – 13. The event will also couple as a Launchpad for the AMG Customer Sports program into Chinese market.

With 20 Formula 1 Grand Prix wins under his belt, Hakkinen will be piloting the Bathurst 12-Hour winning SLS AMG GT3 for the race. He will also be sharing the Gullwing racer with 17-year-old Matthew Solomon from Hong Kong, where the AMG-appointed young racing driver will share the car in an apprentice mode.

This is a huge milestone in the Chinese market for the AMG Customer Sports brand, and will also provide a blueprint for future motorsport events in the market. With Erebus Motorsports taking delivery of two SLS AMG GT3s, the second machine will be piloted by experienced AMG Customer Sports pilot, Lance David Arnold. The 27-year-old once partnered with Hakkinen in a Gullwing on his previous visit to Zhuhai in 2011.
