Toyota’s Next Mark X to sport a Carbon Fiber Roof?

Remember the bit where Toyota does not know what to do with the carbon fiber plant that they used in making the Lexus LFA? Well it seems like it did not take them long to decide the fate for the plant as we might see carbon fiber being implemented on future Toyota/Lexus models, as seen on the Toyota Mark X G Sport Concept.

Making a debut at the Tokyo Auto Salon, this Japan-only offering Mark X sedan sits just below the Camry in Toyota’s product line. Already being a looker, this Mark X concept features a 6kg-shedding carbon fiber roof that replaces the old, weight-hogging steel roof.

This does not only make the car lighter, but it also lowers the car’s center of gravity by roughly an eighth of an inch. While that might not sound much, it is a good start to see what difference a carbon fiber part can bring to this big sedan.

For the time being, there are no definite words that the carbon fiber roof will actually be seen fitted on the Mark X G Sport, which will be entering production somewhere in October this year. This might just be a one-off concept destined only for the Tokyo Auto Salon, but who knows it might probably be as one of the optional extras that one could actually opt for?

Doesn't look that nice. Body kits just look too much & squarish, not smooth & clean looking.
