Just how fast is “fast”? If you think the Bugatti Veyron or Koenigsegg’s Agera R properly represents “fast”, then we might have a new member joining in the club. We have heard of the Hennessey Venom GT being able to make a 0-320km/h dash in a daunting 15.9 seconds, but that is just what they claimed. Could they actually reach such a figure when being put under the eyes of the guys from the Guinness World Records?
Apparently such feat did not even break a sweat for the guys from Hennessey as they brought their elongated Lotus Exige stuffed with the twin-turbocharged Corvette ZR1 engine to the test at Ellington Airport near Houston, Texas.
With two separates runs going in separate directions required to get the average time, the Venom GT successfully recorded a certified 0-300km/h time of 13.63 seconds. The first run, going with a 4-mph tailwind recorded a time of 13.18 seconds, while the second run, with a 6-mph headwind resulted in a 14.08-second time.
And that was not the only record set by the Venom GT that day. The 1,244-horsepower monster also managed to bust the old record for 0-320km/h at 14.51 seconds; faster than what they had claimed previously! This puts the previous record holder, the Koenigsegg Agera R with 17.68 seconds down to second place, and the 1,200-horsepower Bugatti Veyron Super Sports to third with its 22.2 seconds.
