The New Lexus IS Shows Off it’s New Metal!

Just unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show is the newly styled Lexus IS that’s being dubbed as the Japanese company’s entry-level sedan with the usual Spindle Grille styling, Nike-like LED Day-time Running Lights (DRL) and new sheet metal that gives it a muscular stance, similarly styled much like the Japanese company’s GS range.

The new Lexus IS will still maintain having its usual rear-wheel drive, except, it will now add an all-wheel drive variant into the mix this time around equipped with your choice of either a 2.5L V6 (IS250) or a 3.5L V6 (IS350) trim levels. There’s even an IS300h hybrid having made an appearance as well that’s been earmarked for Lexus’ home market of Japan, along with Europe and other markets.

Within the new IS resides a multi-link rear suspension adopted from the GS, as well as the electric power steering setup, and has its rear seating room increased thanks to it riding on a wheel-base that’s 76.2mm longer. Finally, the rear seats are able to provide a 60/40 folding to help with better accommodation.

Lexus has apparently assured that the IS350 will be outputting in excess of the 300bhp mark with more specifications having yet to be released, adding that the performance figures will be of a formidable one, with the IS now receiving an 8-speed automatic transmission taken from the current IS F, along with the torque converter lockup for a better shift feel, including that of blipping the throttle when in manual mode.

Of course there will be the F-Sport range for the IS, with a set of up-rated suspension and a recalibrated electric power steering for a more sportier feel just so it fits the aggressive looks of the car.

The new Lexus IS looks to make its States-side presence felt sometime in the middle of this year, which could mean we may be looking to receive this particular model towards the end of 2013. Time to save up? You tell us.
