…And the 2013 World Car Design of the Year Goes to…the Jaguar F-Type!

Have you ever taken some time to admire the new Jaguar F-Type, and thought that it is the best looking car you have ever seen? Well, you are not alone on that matter as after making its debut at the 2012 Paris Auto Show, Jaguar’s new sports coupe is again enjoying the limelight as it was awarded the 2013 World Car Design of the Year.

Going against 43 other cars which also includes the 2014 Mazda6 and Aston Martin’s new gorgeous Vanquish, the panel of 66 World Car of the Year jury members, with the help of an advisory panel of design experts, still prefers the small Jaguar sports car as the winner.

So what is there on the F-Type that appeals to their eyes compared to the other competitors? According to the advisory panel, “the long wheelbase, short overhangs and flared fenders give this car a good stance. The contour in plan view tapered towards the door emphasizes the muscular rear fender that houses the driven wheels”.

“The F-Type exterior maintains Jaguar’s own elegance in its horizontal proportion and rounded surfaces, yet it looks very dynamic. But I would like to say the interior design is even more attractive. It is clearly driver-oriented, and a grip bar for the passenger is nicely integrated into the big centre console. The seat design is superb, too.”

Ian Callum, the Director of Design for Jaguar is also personally pleased with the overall looks that the F-Type carries, as “it is a project I have been looking forward to from the moment I joined Jaguar, and it is one that has given my team and I great satisfaction”.

Collecting the award at the 2013 New York International Auto Show was Jaguar’s Global Brand Director Adrian Hallmark. This new Jaguar sports car is powered by a 3.0-liter V6 producing 340-horsepower for the F-Type, and an extra 40 for the F-Type S. There is also a V8 variant, where the 5.0-liter supercharged engine gives the F-Type V8 S 495-horsepower to gallop with.
