SLS Electric Drive is now the fastest EV – Nordschleife in under 8 minutes!

Recently when Audi pulled the plugs off the R8 E-tron project, we mentioned that the next big thing will be the Mercedes SLS Electric Drive. Well, we’re right! It is now the fastest production EV around the coveted Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Time? – 7:56.2. Making it the first production EV to lap the Nordschleife in under 8 minutes. The R8 E-tron was crowned the fastest EV before with a lap of 8minutes and 9 seconds and while Audi decided to kill the project, Mercedes skunkworks at AMG were working sleepless nights to get their fastest electric vehicle prepped up for the Nurburgring run.

The only EV faster than the SLS AMG Electric Drive around the Nurburgring is the Toyota EV P002 which was an LMP prototype, that was definitely not production ready or street legal either.

Going on sale this month, the SLS AMG Electric Drive will be the most expensive car Mercedes currently offers on their showroom floors at $550k. Packing 751 horsepower and torque figures that could pull down a house, this electric yellow car will be a hoot. And with a naught-to-sixty time of under 4 seconds, it’ll be the only choice of an electric supercar, until the BMW i8 arrives.
