Rain, Rain, Go Away – Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia 2013 Round 3 Qualifying 1 & 2

Having properly mastered the tricks and turns of the Inje speedway, team FXPrimus Aylezo is now ready to throw in the punches in the Qualifying sessions. But it seems like it will be a tricky one as just after the VW Scirocco R-Cup China Series ended to give way for the Lamborghini Blancpain qualifyings, it started to rain again.

At first, cars went down the circuit with their slicks, in hoping that the rain will just last for a short while. But after six laps into the session, there was just no indication that the rain is going to budge away. So one by one, cars returned into the pits and swapped their full slick tires into the grooved wet set.

Obviously, the soaked circuit drastically reduces the grip, increasing the risk of any uncalled incidents. Thankfully although there were a few cases of cars spinning out of control, no major crashes were reported. Despite the treacherous conditions, the team kept on pushing the car in order to get a good lap time for the qualifying session.

When the team first went down for the run, the rain had yet to engulf the circuit. This allowed the team to secure the 5th position on the grid with a time of 1:53.858 after 5 laps of Q1. On Q2 however, the rain forced them to change the tires and with the soaking tarmac giving a great challenge, a best time of 1:58.288 was recorded on lap 6, giving them the 7th position on the grid for Race 2.

Is it a major setback? As this is only the Qualifying session, the team can still display their skills where it matters the most; race day. Stay tuned as we bring you the actions of Race 1 and 2 from Inje Speedium, Korea.
