Nissan’s 2016 GT-R to Implement Williams’ Hybrid System?

Since Nissan had set the R35 GT-R’s bar to such a high level, they will have to pull out a miracle for the upcoming R36. Scheduled to be launched somewhere in 2016, Nissan would have to find a way to put the R36 above the rest while also cutting back on emissions and fuel consumption. And since Ferrari and McLaren have shown the world that hybrids work for them, the next GT-R is said to be equipped with a hybrid powertrain.

While this might sound like a farfetched rumour, a new report coming from Australian production Carsales is claiming that Williams Advanced Engineering, a technology branch of Williams F1, will be supplying Nissan with hybrid technology for the upcoming GT-R. And to make sure everything goes well, Nismo is also working hand-in-hand on the project.

Being backed up with a trademark application from Nissan for a new “R-Hybrid” label, it will only be a matter of time before Nissan launches a new range of performance hybrids. Williams is already supplying hybrid technology to a number of automakers which includes Porsche and Audi. In fact, Audi’s Le Mans-winning cars implements Williams’ technology, and now partners with Nismo to develop future road cars.

For the time being, it is yet to be confirmed in what form the GT-R’s hybrid system will be like. But both Nissan and Williams will have to overcome the odds and once again surprise the auto world with what they could come up with in 2016.
