Mercedes’ F1 Car to Scream Across the Nurburgring with Michael Schumacher Behind the Wheels!

Back in 1976, the Nordschleife saw a terrible tragedy where Niki Lauda got into a fiery accident that almost got him killed. Since then, the Green Hell was deemed too dangerous for the high-speed Formula 1 racing that it was taken off from the calendar soon after. That however did not spell the end for these death-defying cars screaming across the legendary circuit as Nick Heinfeld took a BMW Sauber and went around it in 2007, but that is not the last of it.

Later in May 19, Michael Schumacher will be the second man to tackle the Nordschleife after the incident, and he will be piloting the much faster and dangerous Mercedes AMG F1 W02. He will be driving the car just before the start of the Nurburgring 24 Hours as a way to thank his fellow German fans for the support given throughout his racing career.

“I have a lot of fond memories of the Nurburgring and am looking forward to giving fans and friends from my home town of Kerpen, which is quite close to the Nurburgring, something to remember as they see me drive by”, said Schumacher.

“But it will be a fantastic experience for me too, driving along the Nordschleife in a state-of-the-art Formula 1 Silver Arrow, particularly in view of the fact that the Silver Arrow’s legend began here. Posting a lap in a modern Silver Arrow on the most beautiful and most tested circuit in the world, what a brilliant mix – it’s every motor racing driver’s dream”, he added.
