Mercedes Benz reveals another A-Class? The GLA Concept.

It seems that the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show is THE hot spot for manufacturers to launch their new creations. Big names like Maserati and Porsche will be showcasing their hot new sport sedans – even Bugatti has something line-up to present in China. Rather, like the highly appraised Geneva, Shanghai is set to feature some pretty hot automobiles too! ~

Not missing the fun, Mercedes is set to release, yet another instalment from the A-Class chassis. Named the GLA Concept, it simply looks almost identical to the A-Class, but with a stance of a sports utility vehicle (SUV). This will sit in the hierarchy, below the GLK, however it sets a more athletic outlook compared to the GLK. Definitely more rugged looking than the A and CLA at the same time.

Nevertheless, the GLA will feature the 4Matic all wheel drivetrain, coupled with the same engines on sale today on the A-Class. We assume an AMG version would eventually take shape, which will add some spice to this car. The 2.0 turbocharged engine from the A45 is what we’ll be expecting most.

Interior wise, its again, identical to the A and CLA, however, the seats look alot more durable for rough usage. As it is designed to tackle more off-road activities, the GLA attains better underbody protection, higher ride height from greater ground clearance and larger wheels and tyres at the same time.

We reckon that Mercedes is committed to elongate their line-up, and making full use of the new chassis. However, is this a marketing ploy? Despite already making more than 20 different models at the moment, is this the right move? – The market is already spoilt for choice, adding to it, sooner or later, entering a Mercedes showroom will be like entering a supermarket.

But we love the GLA, the production spy-shots perceive to look almost identical to the concept. Tentatively, it will go on sale by next year!
