Mercedes-Benz Adds A45 to AMG Line-up!

Coming in ahead of its Geneva debut is a reveal from Mercedes-Benz with a whole load of information about their latest offering that is the A45 AMG that’s been equipped with a 2.0L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine with 355bhp at 6,000rpm and 450Nm of torque between 2,250 and 5,000rpm.

Mercedes’ smallest model finally gets to join its other brethren within the AMG range, garnering much respect from its ability to catapult itself to 100kmh in just 4.6s as it shoots off to an electronically limited Vmax of 250kmh.

The A45 AMG uses an AMG SPEEDSHIFT DCT 7-speed dual-clutch transmission combined with an AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive (AWD) system for its powertrain; something that Mercedes says is about 25% lighter than its competition. It’s even got 3 driving modes, a  function as well as Race Start!

The uniqueness about the powertrain comes from its ability to switch from sending power entirely to the fronts under normal driving conditions to splitting the torque between the front and rear axles up to a ratio of 50:50, while it returns a combined fuel economy of about 6.9L/100km.

Other than its performance upgrades over the usual A-class comes in the form of a sports suspension, along with a 3-stage ESP that can be entirely disengaged, a speed-sensitive sports steering, high-performance braking system and a set of light-weight 18″ twin-spoke AMG alloy rims wrapped by 235/40 tyres or a 19″ rims with 235/35 rubbers as an optional extra can be had.

The braking system found on the AMG A45 comes in the form of perforated and ventilated discs all around; measuring 350x32mm discs up front and 330 x 22mm discs for the rear

It doesn’t stop there for the looks department, having also received a host of aero kits that include a front and rear apron, side skirts, a diffuser, new front grille and a pair of trapezoidal exhausts.

The interior hasn’t been overlook, having been given a sporty makeover with body hugging seats, a flat bottom steering-wheel and carbon-fibre accents around the cabin.

It seems that there will also be other various AMG individualization options to be made available such as red-painted callipers, rear aerofoil, an Exclusive Package, carbon fibre exterior mirror housing, an Aerodynamics Package, Night Package and AMG Performance exhaust and suspension systems.
