McLaren and Honda’s Collaboration May Extend to Not Only F1 Engines, But Also Road Cars!

The news of Honda coming back to F1 and McLaren lending a hand in it had already sent waves of joy as the two legendary names in the sport are coming back together. But it seems that their collaboration in building the power plant for F1 will not just stop there as there might be a possibility for them to extend it into the automotive division too.

“It’s a pure Formula 1 contract, but we’ve already been looking at automotive technology and we’re sharing that very openly”, said McLaren’s CEO Martin Whitmarsh. “Our road car strategy at the moment has no other automotive partner and Honda would be a good place to collaborate”, he added.

But if the two parties were to eventually partner up in building road cars, we would have to wait a little longer for one to actually surface. McLaren’s own MP4-12C is still pretty much a new car, and the P1 has just been launched this year. The entry-level P13 is still under development, but the project has yet to see any involvement from Honda.

“If you look at our product range, 12C is running and will run for a few more years. P1 has just been launched and P13, which is the follow-up car, is relatively developed, so actually it is something that you would see in quite a few years to come”.
