Malaysia’s largest Lotus convoy-gathering

Kuala Lumpur witnessed the largest Lotus convoy gathering ever in Malaysia yesterday. To commemorate the release of the new sci-fi action movie, ‘The Host’, over 60 cars across the whole Lotus range, from the Elise to the Evora, made an appearance to ensure that the event was a tremendous success.

The event was organised by Nusantara Edaran Film (NEF) and Lotus Cars Malaysia, to promote the movie which featured a beautifully chromed up Lotus Evora driven by the alien baddies called, ‘The Seeker’. The looks of the Evora matches with the theme of the movie, bringing to life, the ‘alienistic’ and futuristic characterics.

On the day, without a doubt, the Evoras were the main attraction for everyone, as they lined up in front of the showroom entrance. In total of about 20 Lotus Evoras in different styles, shades and colours participated; with 3 of it, in the Lotus Renault GP form.

Not to miss out too, the Elise, Exige and Europa which caught everyone’s attention, simply by using the power of presence. Majority of the Lotus on the convoy were these flagship models of course. When the Elise S1 was released in 1996, it became a hit to many car enthusiasts. A small, lightweight car, attracting car enthusiasts by its sheer simplicity. Till today, with cars going heavier, the Lotus simplicity will always be coveted by many.

In collaboration with the Lotus Cars Club Malaysia, all the owners made way to Lotus’s new flagship showroom in Sg Penchala, TTDI for the flag-off by 8am. As planned, the exact replica of the chrome Lotus Evora in the movie, made it’s appearance driven by Asia’s Fastest Female Formula Driver – Natasha Seatter. By 9am, the colourful smoke rose to sky and the convoy began with the chrome car leading the pack.

The convoy was a short, 14km journey and with the help of the police outriders, it made the record breaking convoy, smooth and silky. Although, on a Sunday morning, theres not much traffic to begin with of course.

As the convoy arrived in Pavillion KL, everyone was received by Malaysia’s ex-prime minister and Lotus enthusiasts, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad in his white Lotus Evora. Slowly, each and everyone one of the 62 cars parked along the sidewalk entrance of Pavillion and after spending about 10 minutes arranging , the record was made!

Finally – the movie was then officiated by Natasha Seatter, who was dressed like Diane Kruger who played ‘The Seeker’ followed by a group shot with the Lotus Cars Club Malaysia members alongside Tun Dr. Mahathir and the chrome Evora. Celebrating the success of the event, all participants of the event were given special movie passes to watch ‘The Host’ at Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) upstairs.

During the movie, all the cars were left on display along the Pavillion walk, for visitors to enjoy.

All-in-all, the event was a tremendous success and we hope to see this record beaten in the near future by Lotus Cars Malaysia.
