With Tokyo Motor Show just a couple of weeks away – manufacturers are going berserk to launch their latest from the drawing boards to the eyes of the world. In the pursuit of rebranding the badge, Lexus has moved ahead from the usual mundane, purpose built design to something more eye-catching and exquisite to behold. Welcome everyone to the all-new Lexus RC Coupé.
Set to go up against BMW’s 4-series coupé – the all-new RC comes with much more bold and sporty look which compliments the bodyline of the design. Based on the Lexus IS chassis, just like the 4-series; the RC is the two-door iteration of the 4-door compact executive saloon that is set to be more sporty and appeal to the younger crowd. No doubt that the design will set a benchmark in its class, with features hinting more concept car like rather than the old ‘usual’ design that was considerably reserved.
The all-new RC will come in two variants – the 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine RC350 and the RC300h which is powered by a 2.5-litre hybrid engine. Lexus has not released any information on the performance figures of these engines but we reckon it would be similar with the IS350 and IS300h which is rated at 306bhp and 220bhp accordingly. Zerotohundred time may differ however from its saloon sister car.
We think Lexus has taken a huge leap from where it stood before – with their cars now appealing more to the new generation of customers and becoming a much closer option against its German rivals. The design of the new RC Coupé is pretty striking, illustrated in a very silhouette-like figure that derives a very mean looking machine. With the front headlights adopted from the Lexus LF-LC concept first seen in 2012, we think the muscular design works perfectly with the car. The full details will have to wait until Lexus reveals this monstrous looking machine at the Tokyo Motor Show. Till then – we can’t wait to see this in the flesh!
