With the new Civic Type R taking the turbo route, it is safe to assume that a lot of Honda cars in the future will be having a turbocharged power plant too. But what we did not see is that although Honda stated earlier that the next generation NSX will be powered by a naturally aspirated V6 engine mated to three Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) electric motors, it turns out that the new NSX will also be turbocharged.

According to Edmunds, a Honda displayed a mockup model of the new NSX powertrain during a media event right before the Tokyo Motor Show and seen there is an unspecified V6 engine mounted in the center with twin turbos strapped onto it. Also linked to the engine is the SH-AWD three-motor system.

The power plant will be mated to a dual-clutch transmission with “more than six gears”. Edmunds are giving their estimation that the longitudinally-mounted engine (unlike the transversely-mounted engine on the previous gen) probably has a displacement of 3.7-liters and the total power output might be in the range of 550-horsepower.

So a twin-turbocharged 3.7-liter V6 engine equipped with SH-AWD pushing out 550-horsepower, linked to a dual-clutch transmission. Does the new NSX sounds tantalizing to you?
