With great anticipation, Honda Malaysia Sdn Bhd has just pulled the covers off their New Honda CR-Z, hosting a feast of enhancements that makes this a sports hybrid vehicle.
Coming in with a touch of enhancements, the New CR-Z now sports a new front and rear bumper design to sharpen up its looks and receives HIDs up front while the rear lights up with LEDs for 2013.
Its interior has also received a touch of luxury with the use of red stitching on the new semi-leather seats, steering wheel and gear knob, certainly adding greater appeal to the dark and cosy cabin.
On the technical side, the previous CRZ Hybrid mainly featured three driving modes: Normal, Econ and Sport, but for this year the new CRZ Hybrid now comes with a “Plus Sport” button that’s located on the steering wheel which acts as power booster to get the lithium-ion battery to discharge at a higher rate and can be used whilst in NORMAL, ECON and SPORT modes.
The new CRZ Hybrid for 2013 allows you the choice of having it with either a 6-speed manual or a CVT transmission with 7-speed paddle-shifters for it’s 1.5L i-VTEC engine.
However, the electric motor has been tweaked and enhanced to handle higher electrical power levels from its new and improved lithium-ion battery for the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) Hybrid System.
This is said to help preserve additional electric charge in its compact and durable cells while providing twice the usual energy capacity output in comparison to its predecessor. That basically translates to a more dynamic and energetic driving experience.
With the electric motor tweaked, the combined output for the CRZ Hybrid is now at 134bhp at 6,600rpm and 190Nm of torque at 1,000 – 2,000rpm if you’ve opted for a Manual Transmission. If not, then power ratings will take a dip to 132bhp at 6,600rpm and 172Nm of torque at 1,000 – 3,000rpm.
Moving from under the hood and into the dark cabin, the new CRZ Hybrid comes with Dual Front SRS Airbags, Side Curtain & Side Airbags with Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), G-Force Control Technology (G-CON), Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) and Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE).
With an On-The-Road price with Insurance of either RM119,000 (MT) or RM123,000 (CVT), the new CRZ Hybrid also comes with your choice of four colours, Premium Northern Lights Violet Pearl, Premium White Pearl, Polished Metal Metallic and Milano Red as well as 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage, including the IMA Battery. A new free service package comprising up to six free labour services alternating with paid services until 100,000 km is now being offered to all owners of the New CR-Z.
