BMW Group Malaysia Reveals the New BMW HP4! (From RM144,444 OTR w/out Ins)

The Sepang International Circuit was where the stage was set for BMW Group Malaysia to unveil their latest two-wheel offering; the BMW HP4 (High Performance), that’s pretty much worthy of all your lusting for this particular high-powered Bavarian crotch-rocket with a 999cc 4-cylinder motor screaming its way up to 13,000rpm.

The HP4 emerges from its boxer-powered brethren of the HP2 Enduro, HP2 Megamoto and HP2 Sport to now feature a water-cooled 4-cylinder engine from the S1000RR providing 193bhp while screaming at 13,000rpm and 112Nm of torque at 9,750rpm; while mated to a Constant mesh 6-speed gearbox and allowing it sprint you to 100kmh in just 2.9 seconds and onwards to more than 200kmh – if you can hang on that is. Meanwhile, he HP4 is also frugal, capable of achieving 5.9L/100km when at 120kmh.

But what the HP4 is capable of doing over the S1000RR, is all those ponies being churned out at 13,000rpm hasn’t been restricted in the different riding modes – making it very much track ready in “Rain”, “Sport”, “Race” or “Slick” modes.

There’s even a newly designed instrument cluster with the HP4 inscribed in there, while able to provide information and fine tune its Dynamic Traction Control as well as engaging its Launch Control Activation.

The Dynamic Damping Control (DDC) fitted in the HP4 is the first for motorcycles, involving a dynamic adaptation of compression and rebound stage damping to suit some uneven stretches of roads. The semi-active suspension system automatically reacts to your manoeuvres (including braking, accelerating and cornering on different types of road surfaces and sets the correct level of damping by means of an electrically actuated damping valves.

And if you love some track time duties, the HP4 now comes with a Race ABS system which helps to engage the brakes for the rear wheel. once the fronts have been applied; supplying some much needed stability when braking and helping to shorten your brake distance – perfect for allowing the rear-end to step out a little and allow for some ability to yaw into your preferred direction perhaps.

In addition, the Launch Control will also help keep he nose of the HP4 from pitching upwards towards the sky, supported by the shift assistant to provide optimum acceleration and perfect starts on the track.

In order to ensure full acceleration from standstill, Launch Control will help to limit the engine’s torque to ensure that the best amount of torque delivery gets received by the rear wheel should the front wheel be stationary, thereby allowing the rider to concentrate solely on the clutch release for some maximum traction as the rider goes through the gears via the shift assistant that’s available as standard. Further torque limiting will be conducting if the system detects the  front wheel wanting to lift off the ground.

Not found on the standard list are the electronic immobiliser and the anti-theft alarm systems which are being made available as optional extra.

The HP4 comes to us in the form of a multiple colour paint finishing of  Racing Blue Metallic with Light White while weighing at only 199kg that includes the Race ABS and a 90%-filled fuel tank.

The HP4’s weight reduction is attributable to a fine set of 7-spoke forged 17″ alloy rims, anodised in black and comes with a lighter sprocket carrier that’s helped it shave off 2.4kg from the S1000RR.

Best of all, the full Akrapovic exhaust system is made entirely of titanium which has helped save another 4.5kg besides adding to the sporty allure of the HP4 and contributing to its performance figures.

The HP4 also has a Competition Package available that provides a few carbon parts in the form of an engine spoiler, rider footrest, folding brake and clutch levers and wheels that have been finished in Racing Blue Metallic, finally finishing the bike of with a special sponsor sticker kit that’ll surely elevate the level of its sporty appeal.

The BMW HP4 gets slapped with a price tag of RM144,444 (OTR without Insurance), while adding on the Competition Package will have you paying RM158,888 (OTR without Insurance).
