McLaren have not wasted any time in the development of their new P1 hypercar, and it seems that they are really looking into making it a rare gem on the roads. Holding a private event at Beverly Hills last week, McLaren gave their potential customers a sneak peek of what it seems to be not only the best creation that had ever come out from the British marquee, but could also be the best sports car in the world.
For starters, McLaren will give the P1 an exclusive stature by limiting the hypercar’s production to only 500 units worldwide, in which each will be bearing a price tag of around USD 1.2 million (RM 3.6 million). Sounds a bit too much? Probably; but wait until you hear what the P1 will be packing in for such a costly price tag.
The P1’s chassis will share the same carbon fiber passenger tub as the MP4-12C, and all body panels will be built from this lightweight material too. Almost all of the exposed metal on the other hand is made out of titanium alloy. All these steps in lightening the car are necessary as McLaren is aiming to give the P1 a curb weight of around 1,300kg.
And like mentioned previously, the P1 will also share the same twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 engine as the 12C. But to give it more edge than the Italia’s rival, a Kinetic Energy Recovery System or KERS is fitted to pump up the output all the way to 800-horsepower! McLaren had also stated that they are not fitting the P1 with all-wheel drive, which gives the possibility of having electric propulsion on the front axle.
With all these crazy combinations, who will the P1 be up against? Instead of putting the Porsche 918 Spyder in sight, McLaren is aiming to line this new hypercar against the upcoming Ferrari F150, or also known as the Enzo’s successor. McLaren also expects that P1 will be the fastest production car to have ever lapped the Nurburgring.
Every single bit of this car already sounds impressive, and we really hope that McLaren could bring all those into reality. But we had yet to hear much of how the Enzo’s successor is going to be. Maybe this will again be a tight showdown like the MP4-12C versus the 458 Italia?
