Mercedes has gotten their hands absolutely busy this year – refreshing multiple models in their lineup to not only revive the badge, but to also put up a matching fight to their competitors. With the A-class standing as an astounding success, tagged along with the all-new and refreshed S-class.. the brand has kept the competition strong with the best selling models. But before the year ends, Mercedes has now officially introduced the all-new C-class ahead of its official debut next month at the Detroit Motor Show.
The new generation promises a much more intelligent and luxurious vehicle than the C-class ever was before, and no doubt that the all-new car is also bigger. The W205 now comes 3 inches longer and 1.6 inches wider than its predecessor, but with new age technological improvements, it is also 100kg lighter than the W204. On the exterior, it certainly looks like a down-sized iteration of the all-new top-of-the-range S-class.. However with countless new models by the brand, we don’t think the C-class can be called the ‘Baby Benz’ anymore..
However – it does borrow many ‘intelligent’ tech from the S-cass, and not just its exterior looks. Amongst the many techs mentioned are; Attention Assist, Brake Assist System Plus, Active Park Assist and 360 degrees camera. It may seemingly sound like gimmickry but they do help in real world application. Of course, the Mercedes COMMAND navigation system is also fitted with the all-new W205, that not only controls the navigation system, but the 8.4-inch display screen also assists in the control system of the whole car.
As usual, we are most interested in the heart that powers the machine. Customers will be able to choose from 4 different petrol engines and 1 diesel engine at the moment. The the 1.6-litre C180 produces 154bhp and the C200 2.0-litre engine produces 184bhp. At the same time – a C300 packed with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine is also available, that comes with a rated output of 235bhp and 370nm. Hottest of all in the lineup currently is the C400 that packs a 3.0-litre turbocharged V6, producing 329bhp and 480nm of torque. No doubt an AMG will join the line-up eventually, which should put up a good fight against the all-new BMW M3 and Audi RS4.
No details on prices yet and no information on when exactly the C-class will reach Malaysian shores. We can speculate it to arrive in the region of Q2 and Q3 2014 – but until then, we are undoubtedly excited about the all-new C-class! It looks absolutely handsome and its a Mercedes, so it will most definitely be well made. Await for its official debut next month at the Detroit Motor Show.
