There was a time when a sub-seven minute lap around the Nurburgring is only possible in a track-focused machine packing a gazillion horsepower under the hood. But top car manufacturers like Porsche had stunned the world by breaking the seven minute barrier with their all-new 918 Spyder; then again it looks like they will not be the only ones basking under the impressive achievement.

Making an appearance on the net is a new video of the breathtaking McLaren P1, but this is not like any they have been showing us so far. Although it only contains snippets of the P1 tackling the Green Hell, we’d let that pass through as the sounds from McLaren’s new hypercar is just phenomenal.

In the footage, the P1 was driven by McLaren test driver Chris Goodwin, and he had shared a commentary of what it was like driving the machine at full throttle in the challenging conditions of the Nurburgring.

“The track is like the rollercoaster from hell. However, the car feels balanced and poised throughout, and inspires you to push on with the levels of grip and all-round ability”, said Goodwin.

“The numerous jumps that make the Nordschleife famous are an even bigger challenge than normal with the massive speeds we approach them. Flugplatz and Pflanzgarten are both taken at very high speed, but the levels of downforce generated combats these approach speeds, and keep the car really stable on “landing””.
