Maserati to Come Out with a LaFerrari-Based Supercar?

Soon after Ferrari launched their limited-run Enzo back in 2002, it did not take long for Maserati to show interest towards the massive V12 monster and use it as a base to develop their own MC12. With the aim of entering a racing version of the MC12 in the FIA GT competition, only 55 of them were made; making it far more exclusive than the 400-unit Enzo.

So with the LaFerrari now out in the open, we could somehow predict that Maserati is going to the same thing, which there is a very big possibility that they will. Car Magazine reported that Maserati will be building their own supercar variant of the LaFerrari, and to keep things different, it will stick to the conventional power layout rather than implementing a hybrid drivetrain.

Putting the hybrid drivetrain aside will surely mean that this “LaMaserati” could be using Ferrari’s new 6.3-liter V12 engine, possibly tuned to produce less horsepower and more torque due to the electric motor’s absence. And while this means less power, it also gives the Maserati a lower curb weight.

Like the MC12, we might be seeing this new supercar being made in smaller quantities than the 499-unit LaFerrari. Word says that there will only be 50 of them being made, and all of them have already been booked by willing buyers.
