Mark Webber to Leave Formula 1 in Favor of Le Mans 24 Hours?

If you have read the story of Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel being demoted to the Toro Rosso team for the next Grand Prix in China and realizing soon after that it is just an April Fool’s joke, you should not worry about this one as it is no longer April 1st. But this bit of news is still a shocking one as reports are coming in, stating that teammate Mark Webber is considering in leaving the high-pitched world of Formula 1.

So does this spell the end of his motorsport career? Not even close as according to the German daily newspaper Bild, the Australian Formula 1 driver is reportedly in some sort of discussion with Porsche to lead the assault of the German’s sports car manufacturer return to Le Mans in 2014. Having finished in second position during the recent 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix, the relationship between Red Bull’s top guns is not one would relate as “stable”, with Vettel disobeying team orders and overtaking Webber to take the win.

Porsche holds a great record in Le Mans, and they are in fact the most successful car manufacturer in the endurance race’s history with 16 wins under their belt. With their most recent win stretches far back in 1998, Porsche locks their sights again for the win as they will be entering the 2014 race with a brand new LMP1 endurance racecar.
