How Did the Nissan GT-R Nismo Lap the ‘Ring at 7:08? Let’s Have a Look…

The Nurburgring is a holy place for both enthusiasts and car manufacturers. While enthusiasts from all over come to the Green Hell to experience the challenge this German track offers, car manufacturers use this track as a testing ground to further enhance their creations. And the latest car that is grabbing the headlines all over is none other than the Nissan GT-R Nismo lapping the Nurburgring in 7:08.679.

And how fast exactly is this 7:08? As a comparison, the previous GT-R record done at the 20.8km circuit was 7:24.22, which gives it a difference of 15 seconds! With already an impressive machine, this lightning-fast timing was possible with Nissan test driver and racing pilot Michael Krumm being behind the wheels.

“With this lap time, we car authoritatively say that the 2015 Nissan GT-R Nismo holds the volume production car lap record at the Nordschleife, which is the gold standard of high performance achievement”, said Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn. The reason why he particularly uses the word “volume” is because although the Porsche 918 Spyder is faster than the GT-R Nismo, it is not produced in limited numbers and is far cheaper.
