It seems that setting a record for production cars at the famed Nurburgring is getting harder as we speak as car manufacturers are now producing high-powered cars with astounding performance. And for that, we are seeing some new and unique records being made like the VW T5 as the fastest van, and one for pickup trucks which was done by Holden recently.
Blitzing through the Green Hell in the new Holden VF SS V Redline Ute, the long trip from Australia to Germany was totally worth it as they managed to set a new record for a commercial and utility vehicle. Driven by Holden Vehicle Dynamics Engineer Rob Trubiani, this monster Ute clocked a time of 8 minutes 19.47 seconds, faster than the 2010 Camaro SS.
“We came with a plan to tackle the Nurburgring and break the world record for a commercial or utility vehicle but when we did our research it seemed one didn’t exist, so we decided to set a record instead!” Trubiani said.
Holden earlier estimated the Ute to do a time of around 8 minutes 30 seconds, but they managed to set a time 10 seconds faster. The lap was set on the Nordschleife section of the Nurburgring, totalling at 20.8km.
The VF SS Redline Ute houses a 6.0-liter V8 engine that squeezes 349-horsepower at 5,600rpm and 517 Nm of torque. It is also equipped with a sports tuned FE3 suspension and the widest wheels ever fitted to a mainstream Holden (245/40 R19 front and 275/35 R19 rear).
