Gazoo Racing Preparing a Twin-Charged 325HP 86 Concept for TAS 2013

Toyota’s motorsport partner Gazoo Racing had shown us the hidden potentials and impressive capabilities of the Japanese auto giant’s performance machines. And with their LFA taking the class win at last year’s 24-Hour Nurburgring endurance race, Gazoo’s take on the new Toyota 86 is definitely something worth looking at.

Named the GRMN Sports FR Concept Platinum, this highly-modified 86 is bound to make an appearance at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon this January 11. And while the teaser images that we have here shows the Concept received quite a facelift, the performance of Toyota’s new FR machine is nothing new as it had made an appearance back in the Goodwood Festival as the GRMN Sports FR Concept.

Even so, let us just revisit this concept’s specifications and hopefully Toyota will put some of them in their future production 86. For starters, the 2.0-liter Boxer that a lot claim to be lacking of power is pumped up with both a turbocharger and a supercharger, increasing the output to 325-horsepower and 318 lb/ft of torque.

The power is then fed to the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual transmission with a new limited slip differential. And to give the Concept a better handling, a new suspension setup coupled with a better brake package are thrown in, with 18-inch wheels wrapped in 245/40R18 at the front and 265/35R18 for the rear. With all these upgrades packed into the Concept, they still managed to keep the weight at an impressive 1,248kg.
